"Every
morning when we are on Provo, my doberman and I go for a nice
long walk down Grace Bay Beach. On one such morning, in late
May 2005, I noticed a little potcake and her mom on the beach. The
puppy, (who we later named Coco) was about 4 months old. I
had noticed the mother hanging around on the beach at Beaches
Resort for over a month. She looked to be about 2 years old
and had already had a few litters. Then, one day I saw little
Coco following behind her, trying to keep up. She appeared
to have a problem with one of her hips. I knew it was not a
great place for them and I feared for both Coco and her mother.
I returned home with both of them on my mind, and lo and behold
they knew my thoughts and found my house 1 1/2 miles away and
simply moved in.
Since
the mother was going into heat again, I had her spayed, and
notified the TCSPCA that I was caring for these lovely potcakes,
who were so well behaved and people oriented, that they needed
to be saved.
The TCSPCA
came through and found a home in New Hampshire with a beautiful
family and 32 acres …. an island girls
delight!. It was terribly hard for us to give up Coco,
she was such a little silly joy to have around. Making piles
here, and piles there, and playing with all my Dobies toys
and ruling the roost. Despite her hip being out of line, and
too late to put it back in, she ran around like a whirling
dervish, and up the stairs and down, nothing would get in her
way.
Thanks to
the love and open heart of this great family in New Hampshire,
as well as the families who helped with the trip, Coco is
now enjoying green meadows in the summer and fresh snow in
the winter as well as the love of family life.”
